You notice the book laying on a desk. It looks quite old, clearly very well-read. It's spine is fraying a little, it's cover dulled by years sat in the sunlight on a windowsill, awaiting the next entry.

Unable to resist the temptation of curiosity any further, you approach and grab it up in an instance. You glance over your shoulder, in fear of someone catching you in your moment of intrusion.

Slowly, you lift open the front cover and begin to read. Immediately, on the very first page, there is a small, scribbled note.

This journal belongs to Frederick Flume of Hufflepuff House. If found, please return to the Hufflepuff common room.

If you are reading this and you are not me, stop. This is private!

Continue at your peril cos I swear I will hex you the next time I see you!

And don't think I won't know, cos I will and I'll find you and I'll get you, alright? You'll suffer my wrath.

Wrath like a pregnant manticore!

This is my private journal... so you can sod off trying to read it, got it?!

Freddie, age 12.

It was nearing midnight. Many of the residents of the, usually, quiet town of Hogsmeade were in bed but the spirit of mischief was wide awake in Freddie. His parents had gone to sleep at least an hour earlier and he had grown increasingly restless, able to hear the murmur of distant chatter from his room. He longed to be out, to be meeting new people, socialising.

Finally, it grew too much and Freddie leapt out of bed and quickly set about preparing for a night out. Admittedly, he was too young to be going to pubs and the like, but that wasn’t important. Rules were great, but Freddie was quite sure that, to really have fun, you had to turn the odd blind eye.

Slowly, he climbed out of his window and hopped to the snow-covered ground below, landing in a heap with a loud, “Oof!” So it hadn’t been the most graceful of landings, but at least he hadn’t broken anything. He clambered to his feet, brushed himself off and took off in the direction of the Hog’s Head.

Luckily, being a pub, the Hog’s Head didn’t have bouncers. Freddie waltzed into the pub, a cocky smirk on his face when he spotted her. Tall, taller than him and wavy, shoulder-length, blonde hair. Like Monroe in jeans. He crossed the bar and placed himself next to her. “Can I buy you a drink?” A confident first line covered up shaky knees and a knot of nerves balling up in his gut.

The woman turned to him and smiled a warm smile. He felt the urge to shrink away in shy embarrassment but, luckily, he stayed the course and she quickly accepted his offer. Ordering them each a Firewhiskey, he began his spiel, asking her name and the reason for her visiting Hogsmeade.

“What makes you think I’m visiting?” She asked, pursing her lips into a smile. Without batting an eyelid, Freddie instantly replied, “Because I’d certainly have remembered if I’d seen you around before.” Her grin widened and Freddie started to get the feeling he was onto something good.

An hour and three rounds later, the blonde rose from her seat and whispered something into Fred’s ear; whispered something that made his eyes light up in an odd cocktail of excited delight and pure terror. Still, he though, he’d come too far to turn back now. He stood up and started towards the door but she grabbed his wrist, nodding towards the stairs.

Freddie turned and allowed her to lead him upstairs, to the room she was renting. As they entered she went straight to the en-suite bathroom, instructing him to stay in the bedroom and ‘get ready’. With a final wink, she closed the door, leaving Freddie alone next to the bed.

What now? Eagerly, if only to disguise his nerves, he pulled his shirt over his head and dumped it on the floor. The winter air felt particularly cool on his bare skin, senses heightened as adrenaline coursed its way through his veins. More slowly, Freddie unfastened his belt and loosened his jeans, able to push them down off his hips without undoing either the button or the zip.

Schoolboy error. He’d forgotten to take off his shoes in his haste. Pants stuck round his ankles, he began the tricky process of kicking them off without tripping himself up. Needless to say, it wasn’t easy but, eventually, after much cursing and frequent panicked glances to the bathroom door, he managed it.

As Freddie stood up, the door creaked open and there she stood, in lacy lingerie. He blushed, and looked away for a moment, as thought he’d caught her in this state by accident. The rest is a bit of a blur for Freddie. He knew that they kissed and that she led him to the bed but after that it’s all a hazy mess of hand on thigh, lips to neck, skin on skin…

***

Panting, Freddie rolled over, an exhausted smile spread across his face. “Bloody hell.” And that was it. He wasn’t going to lie; it had been… exhilarating, almost as good as he imagined it. What? He was a teenage boy… of course he’d imagined, on a rather regular basis so he’d built up quite the picture of how he’d pictured, you know, sex to be.

It was a lot more tiring than he’d anticipated. He found himself aching all over, but it was a good ache, a very good ache. He yawned, stretching his arms out and turned, placing one arm across the bare torso of his new acquaintance and fell asleep.

***

The sunlight peeked in through the half-drawn curtains, dancing on the boy’s eyes as it welcomed in the morning. Freddie groaned, not quite ready to face the world and rolled back over to curl up with the blonde. The blonde who was gone! He sat up and scrambled across the bed to his pile of clothes.

On top of his messily heaped jeans was his wallet. It had been cleared out; at least six galleons gone. He'd been taken for a ride... in more than one sense; but this second ride, the after-effects of realising he'd been conned felt much clearer, much colder, than the previous evening's ecstasy.

Freddie felt a little pain in his chest and he thought, for a second, that he might cry. He was struck, all of a sudden, by quite how vulnerable he felt and his face fell into a frown.

A cool breeze blew in under the door and Freddie was suddenly aware of his nudity, for the first time since he'd woke. He reached for his clothes and dressed himself silently as he tried to comprehend exactly what had happened. He'd completely opened himself to her... and she'd take advantage.

He blinked away a tear, his cheeks burning with shame, as he pulled on his shoes. The bed creaked under him and he was treated to a brief flash of what last night had held. The idea only served to make him feel even more pathetic.

Next time, he'd make sure it didn't happen.

“Bitch.”
